Wiliot Finds Funding From Qualcomm, Merck For Battery-Free Wireless Chips
San Diego-based fabless semiconductor startup Wiliot, which is developing Bluetooth chips which the company says do not require batteries, has raised $5M in a round of funding form Qualcomm Ventures and M Ventures, the strategic venture capital arm of Merck KGaA. The funding also included Grove Ventures Partners, Norwest Venture Partners and 83North Venture Capital. Wiliot said it has now raised $19M in total, including $14M in its Series A plus the new $5M addition from Qualcomm and Merck. Wiliot says its chips harvest energy from radio waves, which means that its devices do not need batteries or other power sources. The company's CEO is Tal Tamir, and the company also has a significant presence in Israel. More information »
