X Prize Foundation Offers $2M For Lunar Landing
The X Prize Foundation, the organization behind the Ansari X Prize that spurred the development of privately held space vehicles, said yesterday that it is moving ahead with plans to offer a $2 million prize for the development of a lunar lander. The organization released draft rules of the competition yesterday, saying that the new competition will require the creation of a rocket capable of vertical takeoff and vertical landing. The new competition also includes involvement of NASA through its NASA Centennial Challenges program.
