NASA Launches Mission To Mars From Vandenberg

NASA successfully launched its first mission to Mars from the West Coast early on Saturday morning, sending the NASA InSight probe to the Red Planet at 4:05a.m. PST. The mission--launched from a foggy Vandenberg Air Force Base--was visible across Southern California, for those intrepid enough to wake up early on a Saturday and look to the skies. The launch was from Space Launch Complex-3 at Vandenberg Air Force Base. The NASA InSight mission (short for Mars, Interior Exploration using Seismic Investigations, Geodesy and Heat Transport) will seek to study deep below the surface of Mars, with sensors to measure "marsquakes" and develop a map of the interior of Mars.
