8minute Solar Energy Wins City of Los Angeles

Los Angeles-based utility-scale solar power project developer 8minute Solar Energy says it is in a partnership with the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP), to build a new, 4000MW solar energy plant near California City. According to 8minute, the project also includes up to 300MW/1200MWh (megawatt hours) of battery storage, which can be used to provide power when the sun is not shining. 8minute Solar Energy said the first phase of the project will start operations in 2022, with full operational capabilities in 2023. The City of Los Angeles actually approved the project in September. 8minute said the plant will supply solar energy at the lowest prices on record in the U.S., at less than 2 cents per kWh.
