Roddenberry Foundation Launches $1M Early-Stage AI Prize

The Roddenberry Foundation said on Tuesday that it has launched a $1M prize aimed at early-stage ventures that use artificial intelligence (AI) to benefit humanity. According to the foundation, the prize is named after Gene Roddenberry, the creator of Star Trek. The foundation said the prize "embodies the Roddenberry philosophy's promise of a future in which technology and human ingenuity enable everyone—regardless of background—to thrive." The prize will be open to early stage ventures that have raised seed round through Series A financing already, with a focus on AI used in the areas of healthcare, education, sustainability, and space advancements, and beyond. The deadline for applying is July 12th.
