Linspire Upgrades Linux OS
San Diego-based Linspire, a developer of a commercial version of the Linux operating system, said this morning that it has released an upgraded version of its Linspire desktop Linux OS. The firm said that its new Linspire 6.0 software release is the firm's first in over two years, and adds additional licensed, proprietary drivers, codecs, and software to the package. The Linux OS is based on the popular Ubuntu Linux distribution, and also is the first version of its software to incorporate the firm's controversial patent covenant coverage that the firm signed with Microsoft in June.
