MP3tunes Launches Music Directory
San Diego-based MP3tunes has launched a new music directory site called Sideload.com, the firm said this week. The new service points users to music files stored on the Internet, and allows them to load them into their own storage lockers on the MP3tunes web site. Tracks listed in the service this morning included tracks from U2, Aerosmith, The Police, and other popular artists. MP3tunes said that its service does not store any music on its web site, and did not address the issue of copyright ownership of those music files in its launch statement. MP3tunes is a provider of online storage lockers for digital music. The new web site comes from MP3tunes founder Michael Robertson, who also founded MP3.com and faced an extensive legal battle with the RIAA over storage of copyrighted music files on MP3.com, which it lost in 2000.
