Qualcomm Enables Electric Vehicle Charging Stations
San Diego-based Qualcomm said Tuesday that it has inked a deal with electric car charging firm ECOtality, to provide cellular connectivity into that firm's electric charging stations. Financial impact of the deal was not disclosed. Qualcomm and ECOtality said that the use of Qualcomm's technology will allow ECOtality to use a commercial cellular network to manage its Blink brand charging station operations, including collection of usage data, publishing availability to electric vehicle drivers, and for firmware updates. ECOtality has a $230M project to deploy charging infrastructure for almost 15,000 at-home and publicly available charging systems.
