Edison Rolls Online Electric Vehicle Cost Estimator
Southern California Edison, the electric utility which serves a significant chunk of the Southern California, is ramping up its preparation for electric vehicle deployment, saying today that it has launched a new online tool to help its customers estimate the cost of charging their plug-in electric vehicle. According to SCE, its new Plug-in Car Rate Assistant will help its customers estimate the cost of fueling an electric vehicle, and help those customers pick an appropriate rate plan. SCE's online wizard uses inputs, including zip code, annual current daily kwH usage, miles driven, and type of electric car being considered to come up with the calculations, and even compares the cost of that electricity to the cost of a gasoline powered car. The firm said that it offers different rates--and even a second meter--for customers who are buying electric vehicles.
