Qualcomm Adds WLAN Functionality
San Diego-based Qualcomm said today that its chipsets will support the Philips wireless local area network (WLAN) module, a way for mobile phone makers using Qualcomm's CDMA silicon to add 802.11b and 802.11g connectivity. The company said that the WLAN connectivity will help it address the demand for additional functionality in mobile devices. The WLAN solution allows mobile handsets to use high speed wireless local area networks when available, and should be available by the end of the year.
